The popular Canadian produced, TV drama Degrassi: The Next Generation (TNG) is now in its 7th season after originally beginning to air in 2001. Actually, this television show is the latest series in the long Degrassi lineage dating back to 80s. Several other series have preceded it in the Degrassi evolution including the series Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High, and The Kids of Degrassi Street.
The series features the events and surroundings of the lives of a group of teens attending junior high and high school. The teens face the normal challenges of everyday life at that age as well as select other complicated scenarios. Some advanced topics the show addresses are underage drinking, sexuality, drug use, religion, sexual orientation, crime, and violence.
The show is hugely popular in its target age demographic (12-17 year olds) in both the US and Canada. The show airs on The N channel in the US and on CTV in Canada. Recently the show won several awards including a Teen Choice Award for ‘Choice Summer Series’.
